Poetics
I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which I live, work, and create. I pay respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging. Always was, Always will be.
From the river to the sea. Free Palestine, end the occupation.
About Me
Hey there I’m Charlie Lee (they/them), a set and costume designer, artist and theatremaker from Aotearoa, living on unceeded Wurundjeri Land in Naarm.
I’m interested in using costume and material-led processes to explore modes of queer placemaking, particularly in devised, movement based, and community driven works. I like to work on a range of performance styles, genres, and mediums, being led by values and ideas as oposed to fixed styles and categories. Film, theatre, dance, installation, and especially everything in between.
Centering trans* and ecological lenses, I focus on building speculative worlds that erode power structures and hegemonic forms of knowledge, temporality and identification. I’m inspired by how this erosion can hold potential for alternative means of desiring and connecting, and more-than-human care systems.
